About Us

The King’s College Graduate Union (KCGU) is the Student Union for graduate students (PhD, MPhil, MBA, etc.) at King’s College. We are currently part of the Cambridge Student Union too. During your time at King’s, KCGU are your representative body as well as a community with which you can enrich your College social life. The King's graduate community is known for being friendly, diverse, welcoming, and active. To foster this vibrant graduate community, KCGU host events, casual socials, themed formals, and much more throughout the year. In addition, there are lots of sports, societies, and academic opportunities at King's and at Cambridge, so we hope you make yourself at home here!

King's Grad Bar & Grad Suite

King's Grad Bar

King's Grad Bar (KGB)

On select Fridays, the King’s Graduate Bar, more commonly referred to as the KGB, will open at the Munby Room. The bar serves a variety of beer, ciders, spirits, mixers, cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic drinks. It is also a friendly space for the postgraduate community to relax and socialise. The KGB is staffed by fellow graduate students at King’s. If you are interested in becoming a member of the KGB team, look out for the recruitment email at the start of term for more details, or notify a KCGU officer who will help you get in contact with the KGB committee.

Graduate Suite

Graduate Suite

The Grad Suite is a set of rooms in ‘A’ Staircase specifically for the graduate community. It includes a quiet study room, a computer room, and a common room with comfortable sofas, a foosball table, and a TV with surround sound, a Wii, and a PS4. We have an ever growing collection of films, boardgames, and books, as well as a small kitchen that usually has free tea and coffee. The graduate community uses the Grad Suite for social events and everyone is welcome to make themselves at home, though care should be taken not to disturb those working in the quiet study room. However, while we encourage you to use the Grad Suite, it cannot be reserved for an individual’s use; in particular it must not be used to host supervisions or other teaching.

Fresher's Guide

Welcome to King's College!
We are so excited for you to join our community!

As you'll soon learn, King's boasts beautiful grounds, a remarkable history, and one of the most dynamic and supportive graduate communities in Cambridge. This is a time for celebration, but we know that it can also be a time of confusion and stress because there are so many places to find, functions to attend, and names to learn. We've prepared this page in the hope that the information it contains will make your life easier as you adjust to the particulars of King's and your course.

Executive Committee Members

All graduate students at King’s are members of the King’s College Graduate Society! The Committee is elected annually by Society members, and we help to build and represent the community. KCGS Committee meetings are held once a fortnight and are open to everyone. Once a term we have a “General Meeting” where matters of importance to the whole graduate community are discussed, and all graduates are able to vote.
